Introduction to Translation Memory
"A translation memory, or TM, is a database that stores so-called "segments", which can be sentences or sentence-like units (headings, titles or elements in a list), that have been previously translated. A translation memory system stores the words, phrases and paragraphs that have already been translated and aid human translators. The translation memory stores the source text and its corresponding translation in language pairs called “translation units”.
Or simpler: it provides you an identical or similar translation from an existing database of translations, if such can be found. Get Localization has full support for translation memory features, you can see translation memory matches automatically in "Other translations" and "In-page Editor" when you're translating. There's no need to configure anything, Get Localization handles everything for you automatically.
Importing TMX Translation Memories (Translation Memory eXchange format)
You can import your own translation memory in TMX format that is then accessible through our translation memory engine. Importing can be done easily from in project Settings.
If your project is public, you can leverage the existing public translation memory that contains all the translations automatically. Your uploaded TMX is also automatically available for others to use.
If your project is private and you upload a TMX file, it automatically becomes private and is only available in your project. You will still get suggestions from our public translation memory automatically similarly to public projects.
